Magic Johnson shares picture with wife looking stunning in red dress and high heels
The former NBA star and his wife, Cookie Johnson, attended the 20th Annual HollyRod DesignCare Gala, where Magic was honored with the most important award of the night. The couple has been recognized in several occasion for their work as advocates for people with AIDS/HIV.
Cookie and Magic Johnson are one of those couples that have defied not only time and fame but also tricky situations that not most people would be able to overcome. They have been together for over 25 years, and are still very in love with each other.
The stunning couple recently attended the HollyRod DesignCare Gala, a fundraising event organized by actress Holly Robinson-Peete and her husband Rodney Peete through their nonprofit organization, The HollyRod Foundation (HRF).
In the star-studded event, Magic was honored with the “HollyRod Humanitarian Award” for his contribution to the AIDS community through his foundation, The Magic Johnson Foundation, which works to develop and fund programs that are geared at preventing HIV/AIDS while also providing testing, treatment, and scholarships across the country.
In photos shared to their respective Instagram accounts, Cookie and Magic showed off their gratitude to the organizers of the event.
Cookie looked classy in a red dress embroidered with white flowers on the skirt that hugged her figure to perfection. She completed the look with white strappy heels and simple silver accessories as she rocked a natural makeup and her loose hair flowing down her shoulders.
Her husband, on the other hand, went for a classic light blue suit with a white shirt and a dark blue tie with white polka dots. Magic wrote in his caption:
“@thecookiej and I had a great time at the 20th annual @hollyrodfdn DesignCare event to raise money for families impacted by autism and Parkinson's disease. Thank you @hollyrpeete and @rodneypeete9 for honoring me with the HollyRod Humanitarian Award. It's such a special event and great cause.”
The father of three revealed a few years ago that, after confessing to his wife he was diagnosed HIV positive, he told her it was understandable if she wanted to leave. But Cookie, who was pregnant with their son E.J at the time, refused to go and instead reassured him they would get through the situation together.
“I think that if Cookie had left, I’d probably be dead now – no question about it,” Magic said to People magazine. “The reason I live today, and the reason I work as hard today, is for my wife and my family.”
We’re glad that Cookie decided to stick by Magic’s side despite their hard circumstances, and now they’re doing a fantastic job educating people and creating awareness around the virus that changed their lives all those years ago.
