'American Idol' star Katharine McPhee opened up about her heartbreaking loss

Katharine McPhee, an American Idol alum, shared an emotional post on Instagram following the sudden death of her father, Daniel McPhee.

She announced the heartbreaking news through the social media platform on July 16th, expressing that she still couldn’t believe her father was already gone.

The singer accompanied the lengthy post with a sweet photo of her and her father.

Katharine wrote, ‘I can't believe I'm even writing this....But it is with heavy heart that I share that my sweet, sweet Papa left this earth yesterday morning.’

Katharine continued to write that she and her family were ‘completely heartbroken and devastated.’

The singer described Daniel as her ‘biggest fan’ and her ‘biggest champion.’

Katharine reminisced on the moments her father always told her, ‘Give ‘em hell, kid.’

She went on to share with her fans how kind and caring her father was. Katharine said he always made sure his family knew how much he loved them.

‘Not sure my heart will ever be the same,’ said Katharine.

The star, who is presently starring in the Broadway show called Waitress, expressed how sad she was that her father was not able to watch her debut performance.

Although, she added that she was hoping her father can watch her from up above.

She concluded the post by thanking her friends for their unwavering support. Katharine also thanked her fans on Twitter for their prayers.

Two days before she announced her father’s death, Katharine took to Twitter to reveal that she was going to miss the weekend’s shows because of a ‘family emergency.’

Daniel’s passing came just two weeks after Katharine revealed her engagement with David Foster.

At present, the cause of Daniel’s death has not been disclosed to the public.
