Gabaldon's post came after Balfe revealed that she's filming a sex scene with her co-star Heughan on The Late Late Show, according to Express.

Balfe said: “I obviously read the first book before I got the show and when I sat down with Ron D. Moore he was interested in telling a love story and any of the sexy scenes from a female perspective."

“And also not doing your typical TV sex. So you know, we try to never have sexplanation or whatever they call it when there’s something going on."

She added: “I think it’s an integral part of the story. It’s a love story and it’s about the passion and the chemistry between these two characters.”

The Outlander's fourth season will see a new development for Claire and Jamie.

The couple finds themselves washed up on the shores of the American Colonies after surviving a storm and shipwreck.
