The day before Black Monday in 1987, Charnele left New York and accepted the part of Kim Reese for the hit TV show, 'A Different World'.

Before her breakout role in commercial television, Charnele was a struggling girl who faced rejection because her look wasn’t ‘in’.

Dusting off the failures, she didn’t allow the limited perspective of casting agents to slow her determination.

Charnele kept herself relevant until her 'look' became accepted.

A Broadway production of ‘Sarafina’ came calling for the beautiful brown-skinned Charnele Brown, and she accepted.

She had arrived on Broadway and the spotlight was on her but she still wasn’t satisfied.

She had made it to the top with Broadway and it was time to spread her wings wide in on the small screen.

She sacrificed the Africa tour or Broadway’s Sarafina and moved to L.A. to begin what would eventually become her most famous acting role as Kim Reese.

She shone in the new sitcom that embraced black family values, which she described as 'The Cosby Show meets Modern Family'.

Nowadays Charnele is doing more work behind the scenes, writing several stage plays for the theatrical world in Houston, Texas.

Recent pictures of the 57-year-old suggest that she's aging beautifully.
