Many times, there are certain words of wisdom that require a person to stop and think for a considerable amount of time when they are heard.

In the great tradition of American humor, Benjamin Franklin was known to have the title of "First American Humorist" because of how he cleverly used wit, folksy wisdom, and a generous portion of irreverence to pass across his humor.

In his book "Poor Richard Almanac," Franklin detailed many clever sayings which are still a huge part of America's cultural heritage today. The book was published under the pseudonym Richard Saunders when he was 26.

Here are some of his wise sayings that have resonated with many over the years because of the profound wisdom they carry.

Remember that time is money.

Little strokes fell great oaks.

Never contradict anybody.

A little neglect may breed mischief: for want of a nail, the shoe was lost; for want of a shoe, the horse was lost; and for want of a horse, the rider was lost.
