Al Roker's wife grabs attention in plunging black dress while posing with grown up daughter in pic
Al Roker’s wife, Deborah Roberts, attended the MTV Video Music Awards with their grown-up daughter Leila, and the mother-daughter duo sported matching black dresses. The seasoned journalist who credited couple’s therapy for her successful marriage stepped out in style for the annual event.
Roberts looked lovely in a black dress that featured a plunging neckline, and she paired it with a stylish coat and dangling earrings. Her 19-year-old daughter, Leila Ruth Roker, also looked splendid in a matching black dress with side pockets.
Roberts gave a shout-out to her husband, NBC’s “Today” show weatherman, Al Roker, who celebrated his birthday on August 20:
“Heading to VMAs with my girl. Birthday boy allowed us to skip out after dinner. Thanks dear @alroker @cleilapatra @marvasmalls. @diorsovoa”
The "Nightline" anchor and her husband share a close bond that continues to surprise many. She married Roker in 1995 after the latter split from his first wife, and one of her earliest challenges was getting along with Roker’s daughter from his previous marriage.
Roberts, 57, revealed it took a while for her to get along with Courtney:
“There were times when we were the dueling girls. …Sometimes I was feeling, 'Why is Courtney getting her way? I want my way.' And Courtney was doing the same thing. It's not a piece of cake, but it's a lot better than it was. Courtney and I have both matured.”
The couple also had fertility issues, and their first daughter was born through IVF. When their second child, Nick, came along in 2002, they had to deal with the challenge of his developmental delays. They provided their son with all the care and encouragement they could afford, and Nick eventually overcame his hurdles to become a black belt holder in Taekwondo.
Through all these challenges, including Roker’s weight loss, the couple claimed therapy helped keep them grounded. Roker, 64, also shared their other secret:
“We don't like the same foods, we don't really like a lot of the same music, we don't like a lot of the same theater events, but we love each other very much and we have a deep and abiding respect and feeling for family. I think that's what grounds us.”
