Man breaks down in tears after stepdaughter, 13, asks him a life-changing question
Alexa Figueroa is a 13-year-old girl who asked her stepfather to legally adopt her in the most adorable way after the man took care of her when her biological father died.
As Little Things reported, Alexa, who was born in Pennsylvania, endured the passing of her biological father, Eddie, who was killed 12 years ago. Her mother, Mia, managed to find love again in Gus Roman, who took care of Alexa without hesitation.
Since Eddie passed away before Alexa’s first birthday, it is fair to say that Gus has been the girl’s father for as long as she can remember, so she decided that it was time to take the next step.
On Father’s Day, which also happened to be the anniversary of Eddie’s death, Alexa gave Gus a gift.

It was a photo book that showed several special moments the family has experienced. Gus was clearly touched even before getting to the last page, where Alexa had attached the real surprise.

In a video shared by Inside Edition, Gus appeared clearing his tears after he saw that the last picture showed Alexa holding a sign that read: “Hey Dad! 10 years seems long enough don’t ya think?! Wanna adopt me? [sic]”

THE REASON GUS HADN’T ADOPTED HER BEFORE
Little Things added that, even though Gus had always wanted to adopt Alexa, he wanted it to be her decision, which is why he got caught by surprise.

ALEXA TOOK THE FIRST STEP ALREADY
Even before the day they recorded that video, Alexa had added Gus’ last name, Roman, to her own, adding a hyphen between Figueroa and Roman to have a piece of both fathers with her forever.
Inside Edition revealed that Alexa was somehow worried about asking Gus to be her legal father because she didn’t want to lose the Figueroa last name.
Thankfully, Mia came up with the idea of adding a hyphen in between, and the rest is history.
“I said no matter what her last name was, Eddie would always be her dad and so would Gus, and explained how lucky she was to have two dads that loved her so much,” Mia pointed out.
