Olympian Bode Miller shares pool photo of son three months after his daughter drowned
Three months since his 19-month-old daughter died from drowning in a pool and Bode Miller is back inside one as he posted a pool photo of him and his son.
Many were probably surprised to see Bode playing in a pool in his latest photo especially because it brings back memories of a recent tragic past in his family. On June 10, the Olympic skier’s daughter Emmy accidentally fell inside their neighbor’s pool while no one was looking and drowned.
The incident left Bode and his pregnant wife Morgan Beck devastated realizing how quick it happened. Morgan and their children including Emmy were inside their neighbor’s home when she realized the little girl was missing. It was then that she discovered Emmy had walked to the backyard and fallen off the pool. Emmy was already floating when Morgan found her and though the paramedics who responded tried to perform CPR and even rushed her to the hospital, it was too late to resuscitate her.
Now that it’s been three months, Bode knows his other children deserves to enjoy some pool time despite the sad memories it relives. This week he shared a photo where he’s playing with his 3-year-old son Nash in the pool. In the pic which appeared to be part of a sponsorship agreement, Bode was inside the pool with his arms outstretched as he prepared to catch his son who’s on the air. The photo marks a celebration, according to Bode in his caption. It was “the beginning of school,” he says.
Bode opted to disable his post’s comments section, most likely to avoid fans bringing up old wounds. But from the photo it was clear Bode was having a great time with his son.
Since losing their daughter, Bode and Morgan have been dedicating themselves to raising awareness about water safety for young children. Last month, Morgan advised everyone to stay vigilant when near water. In a post where she shares a pair of photos of her late daughter, she wrote,
“Always be aware of water and place as many barriers between your child and those bodies of water as possible (locks, door alarms, pool fences). None of us are immune to this devastatingly life-changing statistic. It can happen so fast and forever change your world.”
Back to school season this year has been an especially tough time for Morgan who recently shared a photo of her children on their first day. In her caption she said the first day of school is usually an exciting time for her family but this year, she sees a “giant hole” in their photo, missing Emmy.
Luckily for Morgan, that hole may be eventually filled by a new baby that’s on the way. The actress and Bode are expecting a child in October after announcing the news in April. This will be the couple’s third child together in addition to Nash and Emmy. Bode also has two children from a previous relationship - Neesyn, 10, and Samuel, 5.
In May, Morgan shared a photo where she was joined by Emmy at the doctor’s office where she was getting an ultrasound.
“Checking out baby with my other baby,” she wrote. Little did she know a month later, tragedy would strike their family.
