The video of a team rescuing a wild mare in the wilderness of Letea, Romania, went viral. The animal had a chain wrapped tightly around its face.

In the clip, a small group of people from the Four Paws Rescue went to the woods to look for possible mistreated wild horses.

In Romania, chaining wild horses is a common practice. However, they never expected to find a mare with a chain severing its eye.

As soon as they saw it, one of the members of the team, Ovidiu Rosu, shot a sedative at it and the horse fell to the ground a couple of yards away.

When the camera got closer to the poor mare, the damage was evident. Follow our Twitter account @amomama_usa for more.

DETERIORATING HEALTH

The chain was tied so tightly that it had ripped off the horse’s skin. Apart from the possible infection and the lacerations, the wild pony was malnourished.

THE GROUP SAVED IT

They removed the chain, trying not to hurt the horse, and used different medicines to heal and cover the wound. Finally, they tagged the mare for control and rereleased it.

Rosu revealed that, even though using such chains to tie horses was common, it was not typical to tie them around their faces.

The horse probably tried to remove it but it got stuck on its face, causing such damage.

CONTROLLING ITS HEALTH

“We watched her for a few days, and we were relieved to see her recovering so well. It’s clear she’s now enjoying her life free of the chains,” admitted Rosu.

A SIMILAR SITUATION

It was not the first time that Rosu and the Four Paws Rescue have uploaded a video saving wild horses.

In 2016, they shared a video showing a wild horse in Romania with its hind legs tied with a chain. The horse was trying its best to run but the chains wouldn't let it move naturally.

Rosu shot a sedative and got closer to the animal, whose legs also had wounds. After cutting the chains, another horse approached him and touched his nose to Rosu’s in sheer gratitude.

The man did not expect such a gentle gesture, but he was overwhelmed with joy. His colleague captured the sweet moment on video.
