Viral video of homeless California Denny’s customer being thrown out of restaurant sparks outrage
A horrible video of a homeless man getting kicked out of Denny’s Diner went viral. Social media users were upset and outraged at how the man was treated by the management staff, and it has since then caught the attention of thousands of people.
A homeless man peacefully eating at Denny’s Diner was escorted out in a humiliating manner by a security guard. Becca Jay Davis caught the incident on video and posted it on her Facebook account saying: “This is America Denny’s Abby and Blackstone… He want to eat too. Share. Sad Man.”
The post had over 200,000 views and mad reactions.
In the clip was what appeared to be a homeless man in a green shirt and bottoms, peacefully and quietly seated while eating. Meanwhile, a security officer was standing by him, putting on gloves, probably because he did not want to make physical contact while escorting the man out.
He did not ask the man to leave quietly and instead harassed the man, caused a scene and told him “go!” The officer said, “He’s not allowed here”, while the woman replied, “Is that why he’s not allowed in here because he’s homeless?” Also heard in the video was the person who was taking the video saying that she has been seated there for a while and the man did nothing to disturb anyone or make any noise.
According to Becca, the man was seated with a family who offered to pay for his meal. She said,
“He was in there when we walked in a family had sat him down with them.. He was there for at least 25 minutes the man ain’t said not 1 word… The family was paying for him to eat and all of a sudden his [expletive] walks in and start harassing the man putting them gloves on… Smh.”
The issue was addressed by Denny’s, saying that one of their principles is to welcome their guests with open arms regardless of their stature. However, this particular man was asked to leave after repeated instances of him dining iwth guests and not paying after,
“One of our guiding principles at Denny’s is that we welcome all of our guests with open arms no matter their background. In this particular instance, the man was asked to leave the restaurant due to repeated instances of dining as a guest and leaving without paying. As we continue to look into this specific incident, we will continue to work with our team members and security staff to ensure that no guest ever feels unwelcome at our restaurants.”
Regardless of whether or not he has been repeatedly asking for food from diners, the way he was treated was still uncalled for and the fact that the officer felt the need to use gloves was insulting for the man.
