'NYPD Blue' TV sequel might soon appear on ABC
Fans of the detective drama “NYPD Blue” have something to look forward too. ABC has given a pilot production go-ahead for the series.
Unfortunately, the show won’t feature Detective Andy Sipowicz anymore. Instead, the lead star will now be Sipowitcz’s son, Theo.
“NYPD Blue’s” pilot will be a co-production between 20th Century Fox TV and ABC Studios. The former was responsible for the original series.
The networks are already casting their four main roles of NYPD cops which will be led by Theo. The new lead star is Detective Andy Sipowicz’s son.

The three-time Emmy award winner for “NYPD Blue” had this to say:
“I did receive a call, and I’m flattered but nor interested. NYPD Blue was a high point in my life and career, and I think of it so fondly. I wish them all well and much success.”
The new series will see Theo trying to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while investigating his father’s murder. The character will take after Sipowicz as he too will be a drinker, hard-headed, and a smart policeman.
The reboot will be handled by former “NYPD Blue” executive producers Matt Olmstead, Nick Wootton, and Jesse Bochco. Jesse is the son of the late “NYPD Blue” co-creator Steven Bochco.
He directed episodes of the original series and will direct the pilot. Olmstead and Wootton were responsible for writing the script.
The original series ran for 12 seasons on ABC, from 1993 to 2005. The cast included Jimmy Smits, Sharon Lawrence, Kim Delaney, James McDaniel, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Rick Schroeder, Gail O’Grady, David Caruso, Gordon Clapp, Bill Brochtrup, Nicholas Turturro, and Garcelle Beauvais.
"NYPD Blue" is an American police drama television series that was set in New York City. It focuses on exploring the struggles of the 15th Precinct detective squad in Manhattan.
