Jennie-O turkey is recalling raw ground turkey over salmonella concerns
A recent salmonella outbreak has sickened more than 164 people in 35 states. At least one person has died from the outbreak.
On Thursday, in response to the outbreak, the US Department of Agriculture issued a recall of 91,388 pounds of raw ground turkey product. The company that makes them is Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales.
A week ahead of Thanksgiving, the Barron, Wisconsin company Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales has faced a major blow with their products being recalled. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said the company’s turkey products might be associated with the salmonella outbreak.
The USDA revealed that its Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) unit was “continuing to investigate illnesses associated with this widespread outbreak, and additional product from other companies may also be recalled.”

The department said the illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days with most people recovering without treatment. However, in some cases, diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized.
The FSIS was concerned that some of the infected products may be frozen in consumers’ freezers. They urged consumers who’ve purchased these products to not consume them.
The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Anyone who has questions regarding the recall can contact the Jennie-O Consumer Engagement Team at 1-800-621-3505.
