The Queen and Prince Philip celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on November 20, 2018, which is the longest of any British monarch in history.

They didn’t spend the day together due to the Queen’s duties. The royal couple first laid eyes on each other at a 1934 wedding. Queen Elizabeth was not even a teenager then.

The couple, who are distant cousins, met again five years later and began a courtship. It wasn’t until 1947 when they tied the knot at Westminster Abbey.

They celebrated their platinum anniversary in 2017 and hosted an exclusive, black-tie reception, inviting only a hundred family members and friends to Windsor Castle.

For this year, the celebrations were more toned down and much less lavish. In fact, the couple didn’t even spend the day together.

Since Prince Philip retired from public duties, he no longer has responsibilities for the country, but the Queen still has a role to fulfill.

Throughout the day of their anniversary, the Queen was scheduled to make an appearance at the Headquarters of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Parliament Square in line to the 150th anniversary of its Royal Charter.

Perhaps she may have spent the rest of the day with her beloved husband after her duties were fulfilled. After all, 71 years of marriage is a big deal.

Sharing the secret to their lasting marriage, Prince Philip shared during their golden anniversary in 1997 that the Queen has endless tolerance, which he said is essential for any “happy marriage.”

The Duke of Edinburgh explained, “It may not be quite so important when things are going well, but it is absolutely vital when the going gets difficult. You can take it from me that the Queen has the quality of tolerance in abundance.”

Prince Philip and the Queen had witnessed quite a lot of special events throughout their marriage. Just this year, the couple attended their grandson, Prince Harry’s wedding with Meghan Markle in May.

They were also present for granddaughter Princess Eugenie’s wedding with Jack Brooksbank in October.

In addition, Prince William and Kate Middleton also welcomed their third child in April, Prince Louis, who is the Queen and Prince Philip’s sixth great-grandchild.

They are expecting another great-grandchild since Prince Harry and Markle announced that they would be welcoming their first child in 2019.

Recently, the Queen and Prince Philip also celebrated their eldest child, Prince Charles’ 70th birthday.

The Prince of Wales had a few things on his belt to mark his special day. One of which was sharing several family portraits that they shot at Clarence House in September.

After the photos were released, a body language expert explained how she could judge Prince Charles’ personality by his poses.
