2018 was a year of Royal weddings and joyous celebrations for the British, and what started with the Spring wedding of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, ended with the lovely Fall ceremony that joined Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank.

The occasion also marked the rapprochement between the Royal Family and the redoubtable Sarah, Duchess of York, who glowed as the mother of the bride in an unusual outfit with a striking matching hat.

Duchess Sarah revealed the reasoning behind her sartorial choice on YouTube/ Good Morning Britain on November 21, 2018.

TWEETS COMPARED SARAH'S HAT TO A QUIDDITCH SNITCH FROM "HARRY POTTER"

Sarah Ferguson carries a cloud of controversy around her, the way other women exude French perfume. It is her nature, and at her youngest daughter's wedding, the Duchess wore an extravagant vivid green dress that was anything but lowkey.

Especially striking was her hat, which unkinder critics likened to the famous Golden Snitch from the "Harry Potter" stories. To be fair, the hat did bear a remarkable resemblance to the famous Snitch, with a broad brim, a flat crown, and two exuberant golden winds.

WHY DUCHESS SARAH CHOSE "THAT" HAT

Duchess Sarah Ferguson joked about the comparison made between her hat and the Golden Snitch with the "Good Morning Britain" hosts and said:

"We love the Golden Snitch but I hadn't realised that until afterwards ! There's always something I do!"

She explained that she had chosen that particular style with the flat crown and the straight broad brim because it was reminiscent of a classical Spanish hat, and was a tribute to her late mother who lived in Argentina for many years.

She has often spoken of her ex-husband as her best friend and a pillar of strength in her time of need. Duchess Sarah lives in Prince Andrew's official residence, the Royal Lodge.

"I cannot be more grateful to Eugenie's grandmother for making this day so memorable. I am so grateful for all the hard work and kindness behind the scenes to make such a special day for our daughter."

She referred to Her Majesty as one of the best people in the world, and a sterling example of kindness and compassion.

Sarah Ferguson had been excluded from the Royal Family since her divorce from Prince Andrew and her subsequent disastrous behavior. Princess Eugenie's wedding is the first sign that she is being taken back into the Royal fold.

THE COLOR OF THE DRESS WAS ALSO A TRIBUTE TO HER LATE MOTHER

The purse Fergie carried for Princess Eugenie's wedding was the same one her mother had used for her own Royal wedding to Prince Andrew. and when she opened it, she found the green tickets to Westminster Abby inside.

Sarah decided to use the purse to honor her mother and had her dress made in the exact shade of the tickets.

"Mum had carried the handbag at my wedding to Prince Andrew and the admission tickets were still in it."

The purse Fergie's mother had carried to her wedding was a vintage Manolo Blahnik clutch. The ensemble was the same vivid emerald green as the tickets and cut from a rich satin.

The long-sleeved dress had a narrow silk collar and featured an asymmetrical draping peplum cascading down one side. It closed at the back with a row of dainty buttons.

Princess Eugenie broke tradition with a Peter Pilotto wedding dress with a plunging back and no veil to show off her scar from scoliosis surgery.
