Will Smith gets emotional, talks about relationship with son Trey after they 'struggled for years'
Will Smith took to Instagram to share a video talking about an important milestone that he and his eldest son, Trey, experienced during their Abu Dhabi trip.
In the clip, the actor appeared wearing a bathrobe in what seemed to be his hotel room explaining that he constantly goes on trips joined by only one of their children to have their solo father-and-child time.
Apart from that, Will revealed that during his F1 outing in Abu Dhabi with Trey, the son he welcomed during his relationship with Sheree Zampino, the young man told him, “you know what dad, I just realized… you are not just my dad. I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend.”
GETTING EMOTIONAL
As soon as the actor finished saying that, his facial expression changed. Will was clearly trying to hold back his tears. To finish the video (and probably cry), Will revealed that he said, “yeah man, prolly, prolly [sic].”
While the clip was touching, the message the actor wrote in the caption was the highlight. Will admitted that his relationship with Trey has not always been like that as they struggled for years after Will and Sheree got divorced.
“He felt betrayed & abandoned. It is a Wild Blessing to recover & restore a Loving Relationship with My Beautiful Son!” confessed the “Pursuit of Happyness” star.
HONORING WILLOW ON HER BIRTHDAY
It is not the first time that one of Will’s children is the main star in one of his Instagram posts. When Willow Smith turned 18 (October 31), the proud father uploaded a touching video to honor his daughter on such a special day.
“You know what dad, I just realized… you are not just my dad. I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend.”
The clip showed him in an interview talking about being a parent and the perks of being the last child. Later, Will said that Willow “has been the most challenging, most beautiful relationship I’ve ever had in my life.”
“Willow got the best of me that any human being has ever gotten, and it is just a beautiful thing to watch her develop and know how to love her better than I’ve ever been able to love anybody,” finished the actor.
At the moment, Will is expected to appear in at least three new projects in 2019. “Aladdin,” “Spies in Disguise,” and “Gemini Man.”
