Born on September 22, 1958, Andrea Bocelli learned to play musical instruments at a young age. He was visually impaired since birth, but the singer went completely blind when he was 12 years old due to a soccer injury.

His big break in the industry came after one of his demo tapes landed in the hands of Luciano Pavarotti. His 1995 album "Bocelli" was a hit in Europe, and the 1999 album "Sogno" was an international sensation.

REFLECTING ON HIS CAREER

Andrea Bocelli is one of the greatest opera singers in the world. Reflecting on how music has helped his life, he once said:

"Life has been good to me. I’ve received so much more than I have been able to give back so far. All the same, I can’t deny that I have had difficult times, like everyone else."

Bocelli remains one of the world's most loved musicians. In 2013, he collaborated with Jennifer Lopez and Nelly Furtado on his album "Passione."

In 2015, he released "Cinema," his 15th studio album. It featured renditions of classic movie soundtracks like "Moon River" from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Maria" from "West Side Story."

After decades of singing covers of other people's songs, he released "Si" in October 2018, which featured his very own hits after 14 long years.

THE "AVE MARIA PIETAS" PERFORMANCE

With "Si" came "Ave Maria Pietas," the musical masterpiece that was accompanied by a heartwarming music video. It was set in a church where Bocelli and Garifullina’s voices perfectly blended while dancers danced with pure emotion in the background.

The duet features the words from the Catholic prayer “Ave Maria," although the order of the lyrics and the melody was altered.

THE ICONIC COLLABORATION

“Ave Maria Pietas” is the first officially recorded song done by Bocelli and Garifullina, but it wasn’t the duo’s first performance together. In the past, they sang together at a concert, singing one of his classic hits, "Con te partirò (Time to Say Goodbye)."

Bocelli’s career as of the moment continues to skyrocket. He was the first classical artist to have reached the number one spot in the Official UK Album Chart since 1994.

Apart from Garifullina, Bocelli also collaborates with other artists in his album, including Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Josh Groban, and Bocelli’s son, Matteo Bocelli.

COLLABORATING WITH POPSTARS

Despite being in the classical genre, Bocelli is well-loved by people in multiple generations because of his ability to collaborate with famous singers in other genres. From J-Lo to Dua Lipa, his collaborations through the years have been well-loved and accepted by many.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, he treated fans with an epic live performance with Ed Sheeran at the Wembley Stadium, singing “Perfect Symphony.” The song is the Italian rendition of Sheeran's hit song “Perfect.”

When he isn't performing his hits or touring the world, Bocelli is at home enjoying life with his second wife, Veronica Berti, and their daughter Victoria. The singer is also a doting dad to his sons Matteo and Amos.
