In the spring of 2018 gossip circulated that the Oscar-winner, Matt Damon was fed up with Donald Trump’s presidential antics. Claims ran wild and some stated the actor planned to move with his family to Australia.

Now the actor has put a firm end to the rumors. Matt Damon made it clear he plans to stay in America by making a massive purchase.

The “Jason Bourne” franchise star made a record-breaking purchase of a multi-floor penthouse. The plush penthouse sits atop the Standish building.

The building is a newly refurbished ultra-luxe apartment house building in New York City’s historic Brooklyn Heights neighborhood. Rumors of Damon’s intent to buy the penthouse has been circulating for over a year.

The property records now show that the star has sealed the deal. The records state that the transaction is completed and that the star paid an eye-catching $16.745 million sale price for the 6,218-square-feet on the 11th and 12th floors and the roof.

The stunning building was designed by Frank S. Lowe and built in 1903 as an apartment hotel. It boasts a symmetrical brick, terra-cotta, and limestone façade.

The Standish is one of the tallest buildings in its area and offers stunning views across the East River to the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline from the penthouse. In 2007 a developer bought the building and converted it to a 31-unit luxury condominium development by Westbrook Partners and DDG Partners.

The restored and redesigned lobby features gleaming porcelain and marble finishes, a 24-hour doorman and concierge services. The building also has a fitness studio, a children’s playroom and a communal roof terrace with panoramic water and city views.

According to Street Easy, the recorded sale price, paid by Damon, is “the highest price paid for residential real estate in Brooklyn.” The previous record of $15.5 million shared by a 10,000-square-foot Cobble Hill townhouse sold in 2015 to photographer Jay Maisel and an 8,000-square-foot Brooklyn Heights townhouse bought in 2018 by Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany.

The highest price paid for a condo in Brooklyn was set in 2017. Art dealer, Lio Malca paid $15 million for a quirky triplex penthouse at the Clock Tower building in DUMBO.

Damon used to live in a waterfront estate along a celebrity lined road in Miami Beach. His wife Luciana and him sold it in 2014 for $15.375 million.

Early last year, it was also reported that Luciana did not approve of Matt's choice of friends. Sources claimed she banned Matt from being around his best friend, Ben Affleck.

“Ben is radioactive! Matt’s wife, Luciana, has banned Ben from their lives! Matt and Luciana are close to Jen. Now she wants to keep Matt clear of Ben! Matt and Luciana have been buddying up with Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky in Australia for weeks. It’s like Ben never existed.”
