'Fund the Wall' campaign donors get their $20 million refunded

The 'Fund the Wall campaign is over! GoFundMe is refunding the 20 million dollars which was raised between December and January.

The GoFundMe campaign was raising money to build a wall at the border of USA and Mexico. They set a target for 1 billion dollars but could not meet it, hence the refund to donors.

The spokesman for GoFundMe, Bobby Whithorne, spoke to Insider telling them that the founder Brian Kolfage promised all donations would be used to pay for the border wall between the US and Mexico if they could meet the $1 billion target.

Whithorne told Insider:

"However that did not happen, this means donors will receive a refund."

Brian Kolfage is a US veteran and Trump supporter. On Friday he updated the GoFundMe campaign page, announcing the refunds and also created a new non-profit Florida Corporation; We Build the Wall, Inc (501)(c)(4).

He urged donors who are still interested in donating their money towards building a wall to redirect their funds to the non-profit organization.

Bobby Whithorne told Insider that if a donor does not require a refund but would rather have his money channeled to the new organization, they must notify GoFundMe as soon as possible.

Since Trump's tenure as President, he has championed a course of action towards building a border wall between the US and Mexico, to control, reduce, and eventually stop the allegedly high number of immigrants who come into the US daily.

Although a lot of people have criticized the policy and called it racist and insensitive, others think it is a brilliant idea and well overdue.
