29-Year-Old Pregnant Mother Shelby Amidon Passes Away While on a Call with 911
"No family should ever have to endure this kind of pain," a mother-in-law wrote after the tragic incident — words that now echo far beyond one grieving family.
A pregnant Alabama mother's final moments are revealing heartbreaking new details. What she said during a desperate 911 call is leaving a community shaken.
At first, it sounded like just another emergency call on a quiet Alabama morning. But what unfolded in those final moments would reveal a tragedy far more chilling — and deeply personal — than anyone expected.
Who She Was
The deceased, a 29-year-old pregnant woman, has been identified as Shelby Amidon. She wasn't just a name in a headline — she was a wife, a mother, and a woman eagerly preparing to welcome her second child.
Friends and family describe Shelby as "full of love and light," someone who centered her world around her husband, Nick Amidon, and their young son, Cayson Amidon.

When This Happened
The tragedy unfolded just before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Blount County, Alabama. Authorities were first alerted to a shooting in the Mountain Lake Road area near Hayden, according to reports from WVTM 13 News.
At that point, it was still unclear just how devastating — and personal — the situation truly was.
What Authorities Found
Deputies arrived at a chaotic and dangerous scene. As law enforcement responded, the suspected gunman allegedly opened fire on a deputy, prompting the officer to return fire. Thankfully, the deputy was not injured.
The suspect fled, triggering a multi-agency manhunt that stretched across the area. Not long after, authorities located him in a wooded area about a mile away, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Suspect
Officials later identified the suspect as 43-year-old Ricky O'Neil Beck Jr., also from Warrior, Alabama.
According to reporting from AL News, the case has been classified as domestic-related, though the exact nature of Shelby and Beck's relationship has not been publicly disclosed.
And that's where the story takes a haunting turn.
The Chilling 911 Call
In her final moments, Shelby did something that would later send chills through investigators — and the public alike.
She called 911. During that call, Shelby reportedly told dispatchers that Beck had been stalking her. Moments later — while still on the phone — she was shot.
That detail, quietly buried in early reports, has since become the most devastating revelation of all. It wasn't just a sudden act of violence. It was something Shelby feared was coming.
What Happened Next
After the shooting, Beck fled the scene in a Chevrolet Z71 pick-up truck with a silver toolbox and was considered armed and dangerous.
As a deputy attempted to intercept him, Beck allegedly brandished a weapon and struck the patrol vehicle with his own.
Despite the confrontation, he managed to escape — briefly. The search ended in the woods, where authorities say he took his own life.
A Family Left Behind
Back home, Shelby’s absence is now a silence that can’t be filled. In a GoFundMe campaign set up by her mother-in-law, Karen Libecap Amidon, Shelby leaves behind her husband, Nick, their young son, and an unborn child who will never meet their mother.
Karen began the fundraiser by writing, "We are heartbroken to share the tragic and sudden loss of Shelby Amidon, a beloved mother, wife, and daughter whose life was taken far too soon."

They said the fundraiser aims to ease the financial burden during this devastating time by covering funeral and memorial expenses and creating a savings fund for Cayson's future.
"We are raising funds to help ease the financial burden during this devastating time. Donations will go toward funeral and memorial expenses, as well as creating a savings fund for Cayson to support his future — something his mother would have wanted more than anything."
As of now, the campaign has raised $12,255 of $15K — a sign of how many people have been moved by Shelby's story.
Shelby's memory, they say, is one rooted in kindness and warmth. "Shelby was a beautiful soul who brought love, warmth, and light to those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her."
In a deeply emotional message on her Facebook page, Shelby's mother-in-law shared that the family is facing an "unimaginable loss," asking for prayers and support during this time.
Why This Story Hits Hard
There are tragedies that shock, and then there are those that linger. This is one of them. Beyond the headlines and police reports lies a haunting truth: Shelby knew she was in danger.
She reached out for help. And in her final moments, she was still searching for safety.
What Comes Next
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation is continuing to review the incident, including the deputy-involved shooting, as part of standard procedure.
The investigation remains ongoing, and once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Blount County District Attorney’s Office.
But for Shelby's loved ones, the legal process is secondary. Right now, they're focused on grief, on healing — and on holding onto the memory of a woman they say was taken far too soon.
