Surrounded by beauty, love, and wildlife, she became engaged during a safari, an unforgettable moment that marked the start of a future she was so excited to build," the statement read.

The couple stayed at the upscale Zuri Zanzibar, where the celebration continued in a private villa. "She had just gotten engaged to the love of her life, her happiness was evident, and she had many good things ahead of her," the family said, as quoted in a report.

From Celebration to Catastrophe

Then, suddenly, everything changed. According to the deceased's family's statement on Instagram, Jenae was found unconscious in her villa and rushed to a local hospital.

She was pronounced dead just hours later. Her family said in their statement, "But just days later [...] Ashly was found unconscious in her villa and was rushed to a local hospital, where her death was confirmed hours later."

The loss, they added, felt surreal, making the tragedy even more overwhelming:

"The woman had been ill, her boyfriend said she came here as a tourist. She was still alive when police were informed. She was taken to hospital, where she passed away the following day (Friday, April 10)," he said.

Police also noted that Jenae and McCann were staying in separate rooms. "As per the rules, they were not legally married, and therefore hotel management decided to separate them, giving the woman her own room and the man his own," Mapujira explained.
