Lamar Davenport, 33, was sentenced to 20 years in state prison on Thursday. He was accused and found guilty of fatally stabbing E’Dena Hines 25 times.

The stabbing had taken place outside the victim's New York apartment in August 2015. The news of his sentence was revealed by the Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. in a press release the same day.

Prosecutors believe Davenport was "under the influence of alcohol (and) drugs" when he committed the horrific crime. Hines is the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife and was only 33 at the time of her death.

Vance said in his statement, "Ambitious and driven, E’Dena Hines was deeply loved by family and friends before her life was brought to a horrific and tragic end by her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport." Adding that her death was an "extraordinarily violent crime."

On August 16, 2015, authorities received a 911 call at about 3 a.m. When they responded to the call, they found Hines lying in the street in front of her apartment on West 162nd Street.

The victim was covered in dozens of stab wounds to the chest. She was later pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.

"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer,"her distraught grandfather, Morgan Freeman, said in a statement after her death. "Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

Davenport was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in May 2018. He faces five years of post-release supervision in addition to his sentence.

Apparently, the stabbing had occurred during an argument between the couple. It is believed that Hines had been in the middle of an argument with her boyfriend when he pulled out a knife and began cutting at her body.

Davenport stabbed the 33-year-old 15 times. He claimed he was driving out demons that possessed the young aspiring actress.

“Thank you, God. Thank you, God. I love you, God.” yelled her boyfriend as he stabbed her to death.
