Wendy Williams to spend 'significant time' hospitalized after Graves' disease complications
Wendy Williams announces her indefinite leave from her show due to complications from a previous disease. The talk show host will be hospitalized but assures of her return when she gets better.
Wendy Williams is taking an indefinite leave from her show. An announcement was made on January 19, the third in a series of announcements delaying her return.
THE STATEMENT ANNOUNCING HER INDEFINITE LEAVE
According to the statement tweeted by her family on her account, Williams has been checked into a hospital due to complications from her Graves’ disease. The 54-year-old host has also been mending her fractured shoulder, the reason she’s been unable to return to her show since the holiday break.
"As Wendy Williams Hunter previously shared, she fractured her shoulder and has been on the mend,” the statement read.
“Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves’ Disease that will require treatment.Wendy will be under strict supervision of her physicians, and as part of her care, there will be significant time spent in the hospital.
“Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being.”
The statement also thanked Williams’ well-wishers “for respecting her and The Hunter Family’s privacy during this time.”
Together with the note from Williams’ family, Debmar-Mercury, her show’s producer and distributor wrote a statement expressing its support for the ailing star.
“For over ten years, Wendy has been a vital part of the Debmar-Mercury family. We wholeheartedly support Wendy in this decision to take the time she needs and we will welcome her back with open arms the moment she is ready.”
The statement also gave an update about the fate of Williams’ show. It confirmed that new episodes will be aired beginning the week of January 28. In the meantime, reruns will be broadcasted this week.
THIRD DELAY
This is the third time Williams delayed her return to her show. She was originally scheduled to return after the holiday break on January 7 but begged off due to her shoulder which was fractured in December. She promised her return on January 14.
However, fans were surprised when it was CNN host Don Lemon who appeared on the show in lieu of Williams that week. Another announcement was made regarding her extended leave and return on the 21st.
Now it seems Williams will be taking a long break with no definite return date set. Fans are suspecting that there’s more to her absence than just a means to recuperate from her ailments.
MORE DRAMA
Rumors have been circulating recently about her husband, Kevin Hunter’s alleged mistress. Though Williams has denied allegations about Hunter’s supposed 10-year affair when it first broke in the fall last year, recent news about the woman’s pregnancy heightened suspicions. Williams has not commented on the latest news due to her absence from the public eye.
