La La Anthony finally reveals why she reconciled with Carmelo after their 2017 split
La La and Melo are reunited and it feels so good!
After nearly seven years of marriage and more than a decade together, La La Anthony moved out of the family home that she shared with husband Carmelo and their son, Kiyan, in April 2017.
According to TMZ, future NBA Hall of Famer Carmelo, more popularly known as Melo, was going through some difficult months because his career with the New York Knicks was uncertain. This reportedly put a strain on their relationship, which led to an amicable split.
In October 2018, La La and were spotted packing on the PDA at the NYC launch of Lumiere de Vie Hommes grooming line. This was just one of the many events that they attended together towards the end of last year, causing many to speculate about whether they were giving their marriage another try.
“We’re good,” La La told People magazine during the event. “I mean, we’ve been together for a really long time so we’re figuring out how to make it work for what is best for Kiyan and what is best for us.”
During the 2019 Starz Winter TCA Press Tour in Los Angeles, “The Love Playbook” author confirmed what many had already guessed. “We’re still working through some things now, but I’m happy to be in a much better place right now,” said La La.
The “Power” actress got candid with Hollywood Life during the event. When asked how they finally got back together, La La said, “Pray a lot. Believe in God. Talk to people that I know have my best interest at heart. Talk to my husband – communicate.”
The mother of one was quick to admit that it was essential to “hold each other accountable for things that we could both be doing in the marriage”, and stressed the importance of “making the marriage a priority”.
The former MTV VJ didn’t shy away from talking about the effort needed to make marriage work and how distractions can cause someone to neglect their relationship. “When you live in this world and it’s work and it’s children, it’s this, it’s that… it’s easy to forget about the marriage and you have to remember to put the marriage at the forefront,” revealed La La. “I think that people just kind of always assume that it’ll be there and they forget that that’s work in itself.”
MELO’S BABY MAMA DRAMA
If unconfirmed sources are to be believed, it is not Melo’s uncertain career that caused their split back in 2017 but the presence of another woman – the NBA player’s alleged mistress.
According to PageSix, Melo and Mia Angel Burks fell for each other at a Chicago nightclub in the summer of 2016. They started dating despite his marriage to La La. Burks is a Northwestern University graduate, and back then she worked in the education field setting up programs.
It is unclear when Burks fell pregnant but an unnamed source claimed that Melo believed the baby was his and was taking care of his pregnant lover until a paternity test was carried out. Neither Melo nor Burks publicly commented on the matter.
While La La and her husband were trying to work things out, Burks was busy defending herself from the trolls who were calling her a homewrecker. In one of her Instagram Stories from last November, Burks clapped back at her haters.
“Calling me out of my name and disrespecting me is one thing, I can handle that. That’s water under the bridge,” wrote Burks. “But calling my daughter disrespectful names like a ‘bastard child’ and telling me ‘[expletive] that baby’ all in DMs is crossing the line.”
She also blasted Melo for failing to stand up for their alleged daughter. “Her father may not defend her, but I will ‘til the end,” she continued. “She didn’t ask to be here, and it doesn’t matter how she got here, she’s here. If you don’t want to see her stay off my page.”
In recent comments to a question that someone asked her on Instagram, Burks made it clear that Melo is not involved in baby Genesis’ life and that they were doing “GREAT” without him.
“SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPEN…”
Does La La believe that things with Melo will get better now after spending nearly two years apart? “I think that marriages are hard and I always see whoever tells you different, they’d be lying,” stated the “Think Like A Man” actress. “I’ve been with my husband for 14 years now, so if you think you’re going to go through 14 years without no bumps or bruises in the road, you’re fooling yourself.”
“It’s about how you respond to it and sometimes things happen just to make the unit stronger and help you guys grow. And I think that’s been the case for us… we’re still working through some things but I’m happy to be in a much better place right now,” concluded La La.
