A day after the world got to read Beyoncé’s moving tribute to Michelle Obama, the former First Lady released a heartwarming message in response to the singer’s Netflix documentary “Homecoming.”
Beyoncé’s “Homecoming” made its long-awaited debut on April 17 and among the millions of impressed fans was none other than Michelle Obama.
The Chicago native took to Twitter one day after the film’s release with a 52-second video tribute to Beyoncé.
“Hey, Queen! Girl, you have done it again. Constantly raising the bar for us all and doing it flawlessly,” Michelle began. “I'd say I'm surprised, but I know who you are. I've seen it up close and personal. Girl, you make me so proud, and I love you.”
Michelle then launched into a glowing review of “Homecoming” and what Beyoncé is aiming to inspire with her latest project:
"I also love that your new Netflix film “Homecoming” is informed by the black leaders, thinkers, and poets who've paved the way for folks like us. I love that it's both a celebration and a call to action. And I love that you're using this film to inspire the next generation of history makers and record breakers who'll run the world in the next years ahead.”
“So to you my dear friend,” she finished. “I just want to say: ‘Keep telling the truth, because you can do it in a way that no one else can.’"
The friendship between Michelle and Beyoncé is nothing short of adorable and inspiring as is evident in both women’s display of respect toward each other.
A day before the “Becoming” author posted her heartwarming video message to Queen Bey, she was announced as one of Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World,” and her profile was penned by none other than – you guessed right! – Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.
The “Flawless” singer, who performed at the Obamas’ inaugural ball ten years ago, described Michelle as “a warm, regal, confident woman” who “used her position of power to improve the world around her.”
“Loving Michelle Obama wasn’t much of a choice. It was something that came naturally, because of how she carried herself,” Beyoncé wrote. “Because she resembled us and was moving in spaces where, as black Americans, we weren’t exactly meant to be, she seemed so powerful.”
Her closing remarks were a testament to her belief in and approval of Michelle Obama’s legacy to the next generation:
“I am so grateful that my daughters and my son live in a world where Michelle Obama shines as a beacon of hope who inspires all of us to do better and to be better.”
Fans of the phenomenal women will recall that Michelle and her husband, former President Barack Obama are huge fans of Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z’s music.
The former White House occupants were filmed grooving to Bey and Jay’s song at their “On The Run II” concert in Maryland last July. A few days before that, Michelle was also spotted at the couple’s Paris concert, dancing along to the music with Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Lawson.
It’s refreshing to see two powerful, black women supporting each other so openly. Go, Queens!
