Remy Ma is Being Investigated for Allegedly Punching ‘Love & Hip-Hop’ Star Brittney Taylor
Rapper Remy Ma is currently under investigation by NYPD after “Love & Hip Hop” co-star Brittney F. Taylor accused the rapper of assaulting her backstage at a benefit concert, leaving her with a black eye.
Brittney Taylor filed a police report at the 13th Precinct station on Wednesday, alleging that Remy hit her in the face on Tuesday night.
The pair, who have feuded in the show in the past, allegedly met backstage at the Pretty Lou Benefit Concert at Irving Plaza near Union Square, where Remy was scheduled to perform alongside Fat Joe.
According to Brittney, they exchanged some words in the green room after Remy accused her of having information about a recent attack on her stepdaughter Dejanae. Ma, Brittney says, threw the first punch.
Although there were police officers at the event, Brittney didn’t report the incident right away because she was “embarrassed,” according to Page Six sources.
Instead, she sought medical treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital over her injuries.
Law enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ that there is an open assault investigation from an altercation at the event, which included a female being punched. However, no charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made.
On Wednesday night, Taylor posted a video of her black eye to Instagram and wrote,
“So, here am I on my way to a very important meeting and it’s hard to even focus because of what occurred last night. I didn’t wanna bring it to social media because It's pretty embarrassing and not a good look tbh. I tried my best to cover it up with make up and move on but that still didn’t work. My Question is @remyma why did you really do this?”
Taylor hired lawyer Sanford Rubenstein to represent her on Thursday. “She wants Remy Ma prosecuted for what she did to her,” Rubenstein told the New York Daily News.
Back in 2007, Remy Ma, real name Reminisce Smith, was arrested for an attempted murder charge. She shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph, wounding her in the chest, after accusing her of stealing $1,000 from her.
Smith spent six years in jail and was released in May 2014. She is currently on parole.
Since being released from jail, Remy has become a respected figure in the hip-hop industry, promoting women empowerment and working to raise funds that will benefit women that, like her, where once part of the system.
The 38-year-old welcomed her first child with husband Papoose, Reminisce Mackenzie, in December 2018. She also has one child from a previous relationship and is a step-mom to Pappose’ three kids from past relationships.
