J.T Taylor, best known for singing with the band "Kool & the Gang" in the '70s, seemed to have disappeared after leaving the band. He is already 65-years-old and has a beautiful family.

Last year, fans of the Songwriters Hall of Fame were treated to a reunion of James “JT” Taylor and his former bandmates Robert “Kool” Bell, Ronald Bell and George Brown on stage. The performance was the first time Taylor and his former bandmates were seen together in 25 years.

The band initially fell apart as a result of severed ties and strained friendships. When they were inducted into the hall of fame last year, they each gave individual acceptance speeches before giving a rousing performance of their song “Celebration.”

"It’s about the people involved who helped write the songs, your motivation behind the songs, where you recorded the songs and my family. And all those things. And I think about how if this or that one element didn’t happen, how would that have affected the outcome of the song or motivated it into something else. And when you see how fragile that process is and how fortunate we were to have the stars line up that day for it to happen… so for me, it’s about the people and the experience," said JT before the induction.

Besides his performance last year, he also performs regularly in several different countries. His son Xavier is also a musician and JT has spent his time helping his son carve out a name for himself in the industry.

JT sang with "Kool & The Gang" as their lead singer from 1978 to 1988. He joined them again briefly in ’96.

During his Hall of Fame interview, JT addressed some of the issues he had with the band. He also opened up about what he would change about their break up.

"If there was anything I would change it would be us not being friends now as a result of a legal case. Once I left the band they said I was never a member of the band, but you reflect on how we did our music. We were together 24/7 for a decade," said JT.

He went on to reminise about the good times. He revealed they had a "system" for creating their music and that they "really just had the desire to write music."

"When that whole legal thing happened it was like, really? We’ll never be able to get rid of the magic we had, so what’s the point? But when I reflect and see how our music affected people around the world, it’s so humbling. Even right now talking about it I get a little chill. I always keep that in the forefront and count my blessings," said the singer about their break up.

JT is still married to his wife, Starleana, who is a singer and former member of the 80’s group, Aurra. They share a son, Xavier, together.

Taylor focused on his solo career after leaving the band and has released a few solo songs over the years.
