Jackson's father was NASCAR fabricator Robert Gee. Jackson married Dale Earnhardt Sr in the early seventies, and the couple had two children – Dale Jr. and Kelley.

After her divorce from Earnhardt Sr, Dale Jr and Kelley founded JR Motorsports, and Jackson joined the team as an accounting specialist in 2004.
