Here's How Pierce Brosnan Found Love Again after a Painful Family Tragedy
He was devastated by the death of his first wife, but Pierce Brosnan picked up the pieces and gave love another chance.
The 64-year-old James Bond star is enjoying a happy marriage with former journalist Keely Shaye Smith, as reported by Fox News.
Brosnan and Smith, 54, have been married for 16 years. His first wife, Cassandra Harris, succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1991.
“You have to trust and follow your heart and try to meet the best people in life,” Brosnan said.
He shared how much he admires Smith. “When Keely looks at me, I go weak. I love her vitality, her passion. She has this strength that I wouldn’t be able to live without.”
DEALING WITH TWO MAJOR LOSSES
Smith has helped him cope with the two major losses – the death of his first wife and that of their daughter Charlotte Brosnan, who also died from ovarian cancer in 2013 at the age of 41.
Brosnan has two other children from his first marriage – 45-year-old Christopher and 34-year-old Sean.
Brosnan shared, “I don’t look at the cup as half-full, believe me. The dark, melancholy Irish black dog sits beside me from time to time.”
Brosnan spends time at home with Smith when he’s not busy filming.
MARRYING A 'GREAT WOMAN'
The couple met at the peak of Brosnan fame in a beach party in Mexico in 1994. Seven years later, they were exchanging vows in Brosnan’s native Ireland.
“I’ve been a married man most of my life – that’s the way I like said,” he said. “I found a great woman in Keely. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good.”
The couple share two children, 21-year-old Dylan, and 16-year-old Paris.
Reflecting on his life, Brosnan mused, “There are so many lessons you learn each day and each passing year. It’s important to have good faith in yourself and to know yourself as much as you can, and then to go out there and do good things.”
