John Legend Reacts Jokingly to Blake Shelton's 'Arrogant' Quip after Winning ‘The Voice’
In his first season as a coach for the hit singing competition show, John Legend made it big, with his coachee Maelyn Jarmon won the sixteenth season, and this has been hard on fellow coach Blake Shelton.
Even since singer and actor John Legend joined “The Voice,” a friendly rivalry between him and the rest of the coaches – especially Adam Levine and Blake Shelton – but he now has the satisfaction of being the winning coach.
Following the triumph of 26-year-old contestant Maely Jarmon under the guidance of Legend, the winner and her coach appeared in front of the press for a news conference, and one journalist couldn’t resist to quoting Blake Shelton’s resentful comment about his friend.
FRIENDLY RIVALRY
“I like John, but he can kiss my [expletive]. This is a competition,” were the words by Shelton read aloud by the journalist, who demanded a response from Legend.
“I really love Blake and I really enjoyed getting to know him this year. He’s a very arrogant bastard. I had this feeling that he was gonna be the one kissing someone’s [expletive] after the show, and I was right once again,” the singer replied.
It is easy to understand Shelton’s frustration over the outcome of the season, as he appeared to have secured his victory, with three finalists being part of his team, while Legend had just one.
A SURPRISING WIN
Shelton, who has won more seasons than any other coach until now, was ready to celebrate another win when Jarmon surprised everybody by crowning herself the winner of season 16.
But Legend had all his trust on Jarmon, and it was clear for him that she always had what it took to surpass all the other contestants.
Jarmon’s victory is especially touching, since the talented singer is completely deaf in her right ear and has 80% of hearing in her left one, due to the damage she suffered as a child because of recurring infections.
“When you have Maelyn on your team, she's supposed to win ‘The Voice.’ Her voice is supposed to win. That's why it's called ‘The Voice,’" the proud coach said.
“This is literally the happiest I’ve ever seen John ever????” Legend’s wife, model Chrissy Teigen, tweeted after Jarmon’s deserved victory.
AN EXCITING INVITATION
Legend and Jarmon grew very close during the season they spent working as a team, and now that they have something to celebrate, he promised to invite her and her family to his home, to meet Teigen and their two lovely children.
"When are you leaving town? Because we'll have a hangout session. We'll have your family over and we'll hang out," Legend told Jarmon in front of the press. "That's on camera! You all have that,” an amused Jarmon told the reporters.
MAELYN’S SUPERPOWER
Jarmon’s victory is especially touching, since the talented singer is completely deaf in her right ear and has 80% of hearing in her left one, due to the damage she suffered as a child because of recurring infections.
“I’ve considered it a superpower since I was young. It was never discussed as a disability through my house. It was never really talked about much at all,” the Texas native said about her condition.
By the season finale, coach Adam Levine was certain that it was Jarmon who was going to get the title, and he didn’t shy away from letting her know this.
“Everyone in the finale is fantastic, but I believe you are the one who should be winning this thing,” he conceded.
