Why Gabrielle Union 'Loves' That Daughter Kaavia Is 'Shady Baby'

Gabrielle Union is one proud mama, and she revealed in a recent interview why she loves that her daughter Kaavia is a "shady baby."

It took a while for Gab Union and Dwyane Wade to have their own child, and now that Kaavia is here, everyone is surprised to see that she is such a "shady" baby with all her facial expressions that are not quite usual for other babies her age.

"I love that she’s shady baby. Shady baby is just somebody who is not going to dance for you when you say now. She’s got her own mind at four and a half months."

Coming from a family of superstars, Kaavia had to get used to having cameras surround her at such a young age. While some kids are uncomfortable in front of the camera, Kaavia here just makes sure to let people know when she's not in the mood for pictures. In fact, her facial expressions will say it all.

Her own self

Now, her proud mom shares why she loves that her daughter is so shady at such a young age. To her, it's Kaavia expressing her individualism, something that you wouldn't see with most babies at such a young age.

“She’s really her own person. She’s not here for our shenanigans. And if she doesn’t feel like being documented, which is most of the time, she gives you a look like ‘I don’t think you’ve talked to my agent. And I’m not doing this for free.’ I love that she’s shady baby. Shady baby is just somebody who is not going to dance for you when you say now. She’s got her own mind at four and a half months."

Gabrielle adds that she hopes that Kaavia keeps the same energy until she grows older, sharing her true feelings whenever she feels like it.

"I hope she keeps that same energy where when she feels like smiling, she smiles and when she doesn’t she doesn’t and either you catch the mood or you don’t and she’s going to stay true to herself. So that’s the dream. But it’s dope to me, when she smiles I know I’ve earned it. When she gives me shady baby, I’ve also probably earned that as well. I probably have my camera out. She’ll be smiling and I’ll pull the camera out and she’ll be like, ‘Ma’am, we’re not doing this.’”

A nickname to last

"Shady Baby" is a nickname that Dwyane and Gab will be using for their child for a very long time, as they've already trademarked it alongside "Kaavia James." In fact, they've made new businesses under the two names that focus on clothing, hair care products, and jewelry.

With so many things going on in Kaavia's life at four and a half months old, we just can't wait to see what she and her parents have up their sleeves as she grows older. After all, they have a lot more time on their hands now that Dwyane is retired from the NBA.
