Lisa Marie Presley Is ‘Grateful to Be Alive’ as She Opens up about Her Opioid Addiction (unconfirmed)
Lisa Marie Presley is finally opening up about her drug addiction, an issue she kept under wraps until her last divorce brought it to light.
Lisa is ready to help others by speaking out about her battle with opioid addiction. According to Yahoo News, she wrote the foreword for Harry Nelson's "The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain."
In her essay, Lisa Marie began by mentioning the discord in her actions when one considers her past. "You may read this and wonder how, after losing people close to me, I also fell prey to opioids," she acknowledged.
The singer's father, Elvis Presley, as well as her second ex-husband Michael Jackson, were both addicted to drugs. Knowing this, and how close she came to death, made Lisa Marie realize she is "grateful to be alive today."

She explained that her problems began when she received a prescription for opioids after giving birth to her daughters Vivienne and Finley Lockwood in 2008. "It only took a short-term prescription of opioids in the hospital for me to feel the need to keep taking them," she admitted.
Lisa became dependent on the pain killers about six years ago, like many in this nation. Yet she's speaking up in hopes that others will be able to overcome the habit and put their lives "back together" as she did.

To do so, she insisted:
"I have seen too many people I loved struggle with addiction and die tragically from this epidemic. It is time for us to say goodbye to shame about addiction. We have to stop blaming and judging ourselves and the people around us... That starts with sharing our stories.”
Lisa's addiction came to light amid her last divorce from musician Michael Lockwood. Court documents revealed how she admitted to serious drug abuse. She temporarily lost custody of her twin girls, 10, in the last couple years of her marriage.
In those years, she started mixing the drugs with alcohol, making the threat on her life that much more serious. Lisa said that even her therapist was amazed she was alive and described her as a miracle. "I don't know how you're still alive," the expert insisted.
Lisa is most appreciative that she's still around to see her four children, including her older children Riley Keough, 30, and Benjamin Keough, 26. She credited all of them with giving her "the purpose to heal" and said that they were the ones who "carried [her] through dark times."
Lisa's twin girls are quite big now, and apart from helping their mom overcome her struggles, they're becoming their own persons, who happen to look a lot like their legendary dad.
The twins' mother sometimes shares pictures of her girls to her social media. Recently, people have begun to notice the similarities between them and their famous dad.
Of course, fans love how they can make a connection. Keough is also being attached to her grandmother Priscilla. Both women are gorgeous, and Keough is using her beauty to do acting and modeling.
Lisa has reportedly described her parenting style as being on the more involved and protective side. “I’m very, very much a very strong and intense lioness mother. Very scary, intense lioness mother.”
Lisa's own mother, Priscilla Presley, also looks out for her daughter. Amid the ongoing messy divorce from Lockwood, Lisa is struggling financially and landed in serious debt.
Priscilla helped by selling her Los Angeles estate for $3.65 million, way over the initial asking price. The money will help cover attorney fees and give Lisa a better footing as she continues the divorce.
