Why Kevin Hart Won't Take Back the $300 He Lent to Tiffany Haddish

Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish’s friendship goes way back. Years ago, when Haddish hit rock bottom, Hart lent her $300 to help her sort out her life. Now that the actress has found success in Hollywood, she has tried to return the money, but Hart refuses to accept it and here’s why.

Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish have become two of the most sought-after comedians in the entertainment industry.

The stars have made a name for themselves in the competitive acting world, working together and separately, but the pair met when both were struggling comedians trying to make their big break in Hollywood.

At some point, Haddish was homeless and living on her car, and when Hart found out about it, he decided to help by lending her $300 he had in his pocket.

KEVIN’S PETTY REASONS

Tiffany has been trying to return the money unsuccessfully, and Hart recently explained in an interview with Essence why he refuses to take the $300 back.

“Because then what would I have to hang over her head? Absolutely nothing,” he said. “I need something that I can bring up from time to time. So, no!”

And added:

“I’m not going to take the money so every chance that I get I can go, ‘Hey! You know what’s crazy? You still owe me that $300…I don’t want the money back.”

THE ORIGINAL STORY

Last year, Hart recalled the money story an interview with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.

“I had $300, and I was like, ‘Here. I don’t know what your situation is, but hopefully this can do something for you in this time because I feel like you’re not telling me something,'” he explained.

Tiffany used the money to pay for a cheap motel room, get some rest, and start re-organizing her priorities in life.

“I just wanted to take a shower, take a little nap, write out my list,” she told Vanity Fair. “I wrote: Get myself an apartment. Do these things, all these people I wanna work with, everything. I pretty much tackled almost all those goals.”

TRYING TO RETURN THE MONEY

Last year, Tiffany and Kevin starred on the comedy “Night School,” a moment that she described as coming full circle in her relationship with Hart.

She tried to pay him back the $300 by interrupting one of his promotional interviews for the movie and “making it rain” on him, and although Hart was thankful for the gesture, he managed to sneak the money back to Tiffany without her noticing.

“I love my sister, @tiffanyhaddish...She has been trying to pay me back for years & I refused to take the money, so she ambushed me on set and made it rain on me,” Kevin wrote on an Instagram post.

And continued:

“What she doesn’t know is that I put the money back in one of her wig caps that she wasn’t wearing later that day!!!! I’m dead serious. Check your wig cap @tiffanyhaddish...I love u, and I will never take from you.”

Haddish then shared a new video checking her bag to find the money but made sure to let Kevin know he was getting the money back one way or another.

“Thank You very much. But You getting this money back,” she wrote. “I am paying you back! I pay all my loans off. That is something you and my Grandma taught me ‘never owe nobody money.’”

Both stars are sharing the screen as animated characters on the newly released film “The Secret Life of Pets 2.”
