Hollywood icon Julia Roberts and country star Lyle Lovett once shared a romantic bond, which ended just as abruptly as it had started.

The two stars, who lived two completely opposite lifestyles, came together on the set of the 1992 film, “The Player” by Robert Altman.

They were an unlikely pair right from the start. However, after just three weeks of meeting each other, Roberts and Lovett decided to exchange vows. They got married on June 27, 1993.

Following the wedding, Lovett soon started expressing his love for Roberts through his songs. He would often dedicate concert songs to Fiona, which is the middle name of Roberts.

Meanwhile, Roberts had previously gone through a highly publicized relationship with Kiefer Sutherland. In 1991, their romance, as well as their eventual breakup, had made many headlines. So she was adamant on keeping her relationship with Lovett private.

It was reported that even the guests of their wedding were notified only 72 hours before the big occasion.

They got married in a small church in Marion, Indiana, during one of Lovett’s tours that year. Lovett introduced Roberts as his wife later that night before his concert audience.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my husband…Lyle Lovett,” Roberts said before sharing a kiss. Then Lovett replied by saying, “Welcome to the happiest day of my life.”

The first song he then performed that night was “Stand By Your Man.”

Unfortunately, from that point on, their relationship started facing several challenges and, eventually, took a huge plummet.

Their busy life took a huge toll on their romance. The couple found it hard to make time for each other, especially after Roberts left for Washington DC to complete her film, “The Pelican Brief.”

RUMORS OF JULIA'S ALLEGED AFFAIRS

In early 1994, several rumors linking Roberts to her male co-stars emerged. Headlines suggested her involvement with actor Ethan Hawke as well as Michael Sheen.

Eventually, after just about 21 months of marriage, the couple ended their relationship and decided to go separate ways in March 1995.

According to Country Fan Cast, both the stars have now moved on with their life with Roberts marrying Danny Moder on July 4, 2002, and Lovett marrying April Kimble on February 4, 2017.

Although many celebrity couples, like Roberts and Lovett, fail to make their marriage work, there are others who are putting reel-life romance stories to shame.

Hollywood icon Sam Elliot and actress Katherine Ross, who have been married for more than three decades, is one of such couples whose love has only become stronger with time.
