Although hard to accept, relationships do get sour, and that was what happened with the actress and her boo.

WHEN YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT RIGHT FOR YOU

Naughton grew up with the best relationship role models, (her parents who have been married for over 47 years) so she always knew what she wanted from her relationship.

However, Ben wasn't any of that, and upon this realization, she had to let him go. In an interview with Essence, Naughton revealed that despite having kids with Ben and also developing the pressure to be somebody's wife, she knew deep down that it wasn't right.

“I don’t want to be married if it’s not the right marriage and the right person,” the 35-year-old actress told ESSENCE.

She also stated that she had to learn that pressure arises when you let other people impose their fears and expectations on you; while what you should do is set your own rules and live your truth.

“Pressure is really induced by living up to other people’s expectations, and instead of trying to live up to somebody else’s expectations for me, I just need to be happy.”

The actress even went on to confess that she, at some point, she would question why her life turned out the way it did instead of the perfect picture story. But now, she's realized that's not what was written for her.

"A lot of people think that marriage is the quintessential success, but it’s not if the marriage is not grounded in the right foundation,” Naughton added.

STAY TOO LONG

Like many before her, the singer found solace in writing and singing about her heartbreak and the tribulations she faced in her relationship.

Naughton revealed that the soon to be released song, "Stay Too Long" was about how she glaringly saw all the signs but decided to ignore them. A part of the lyrics reads,

"Three months after the baby was born, your love for me was gone. How could you flip the script on me?…Love makes you foolish and stays way too long."

BEAUTIFUL ZURI

However hard it was, she had her daughter Zuri to keep her focused. According to the mother of one, she has since moved on from the heartbreak, and all she wants is to be the best mom for her baby girl.

Naughton also ascertained that although she and her daughter's father may not be involved anymore, Ben is such a wonderful father to their child. The parents have perfected the art of co-parenting, and it's working well for them.

They also let their daughter know to appreciate her color in a world that still doesn't appreciate dark skin so much. The parents are sure teaching Zuri the importance of knowing that she is a beauty even at a very young age.

STRUGGLES AS A BLACK WOMAN

It's important to teach her daughter all about feeling beautiful in her skin because Naughton also had to learn the hard way. The actress recalled how she lost different roles in the industry because she was too dark skinned or even sometimes because her mannerism wasn't black enough.

She, however, overcame this by being herself and feeling confident in her body.

THE NEW GUY

Prior to Naughton's revealing interview with Essence, there were speculations that the actress was involved with her former "Power" co-star, Sinqua Walls.

Although nothing is confirmed by both parties yet, the rumors, however, became more profound when the duo kept sharing compliments and flirtatious exchanges on social media.

Even after all she's been through regarding her relationship, the jovial and beautiful actress keeps glowing and looks nothing like what she's had to go through.
