'Law & Order: SVU' Grabs Fans' Interest after Releasing a Photo of Mariska Hargitay and Peter Gallagher

Fans of the long-running show “Law & Order: SVU” took to social media their excitement over the highly-anticipated 21st season after showrunner Warren Leight tweeted a photo of Mariska Hargitay on set.

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” made history after they were renewed for the 21st season, which will be premiered in the coming months. SVU showrunner, Warren Leight, teased the show’s fans with a photo of Mariska Hargitay and Peter Gallagher working on set.

“Benson and Dodds -- on the scene today -- and whoever they’re talking to is really pissing them off,” he tweeted.

Fans responded with enthusiasm and excitement to see their favorite show on screen again. One Twitter user asked for a hint of the scene they were filming, while others expressed their love for the two stars.

“Oh yes!! He’s back! I absolutely LOVE the acting-chemistry between @Mariska & @petergallagher and any scene with them in it. Perhaps especially when there’s angry tension, either directed towards each other or towards another poor person in the room,” one comment read.

“Yeah so Happe Chief Dodds @petergallagher and @Mariska maybe Benson will be ne Chief and Dodds be NY Mayor,” read another.

After the announcement of the show’s renewal, Hargitay expressed her pride and gratitude being in the longest-running live-action prime-time series in TV history, overtaking the original “Law & Order” and CBS’ Western “Gunsmoke.”

SVU first aired in 1999, featuring different cases of child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence, which are investigated upon by Lt. Olivia Benson (Hargitay) along with the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department.

The show won Hargitay many awards for her character, including an Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe. Taking her fictional character to real life, Hargitay became a real-life advocate of victims of sexual violence.
