The stars of “Law & Order: SVU” have taken to social media to confirm it’s highly anticipated return. Original cast member, Mariska Hargitay took to twitter to confirm its historic return. She tweeted:
"20 years ago, we started a conversation. We're not finished. I'm profoundly proud of how far we've come. Prouder still of how far we'll go. We've all broken this ground together. #SVUSeason21"
Hargitay has been playing Olivia Benson for 20 years. Her experience in Hollywood has opened more opportunities for the star. On top of her acting career she has branched out as a producer and is also directing. She tells PEOPLE:
“But with all the new things that I’ve learned, I go, ‘I can’t leave the show.’ I’m learning how to direct, I’m learning how to executive produce, I’m learning how to produce-produce. I’m learning about the puzzle of putting things together and weather and actor availability.”
There had been speculation that her new endeavors behind the camera would see the star not return to the show. However, her tweet and the show’s promo video is all the confirmation audiences need to celebrate the return of their favorite award winning character.
Hargitay’s co-star, Ice-T, who plays Odafin Tutuola, also tweeted the good news:
“SVU has been OFFICIALLY picked up for season #21. Making us the longest running drama in Television History! Respect to the man Dick Wolf and all my past and present Cast and Crew! And definetly ALL the fans!”
Guest appearances for the latest season include Ian McShane. A surprising addition to the show’s guest roles is “Modern Family’s,” Ariel Winter. E! News reports, Winter was seen on set shooting scenes with Hargitay. Days before she was seen on set, Winter teased fans with picture of her wearing a blonde wig, she writes.
"Filming something new that I'm really excited about."
The blonde wig is complete change to her usual look. Her guest role “Law & Order: SVU” is sure to introduce fans to another side of Winter that we have never before.
NBC has released a statement announcing that season 21 will premiere this fall on September 26 at 10 p.m. EST.
