Ellen DeGeneres and Wife Portia De Rossi Celebrate Their 11th Anniversary (Photo)

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi celebrate 11 years of marriage. The television host share’s a photo from their wedding day.

“She’s taught me lessons about myself, and I feel like I’ve taught her.”

Ellen DeGeneres spoke these words in 2008, when she announced during a taping of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” that she and Portia de Rossi were getting married.

The talk show host adds:

“We’ve both changed and grown, and we just feel like, ‘Oh, okay, this is completion.”

Standing the test of time in Hollywood marriages, DeGeneres and de Rossi have come a long way. The couple celebrated 11 years of marriage, on August 17.

DeGeneres honoured her wife with a simple message and shared a rare photo from their day, she writes:

“Happy anniversary, Portia. 11 years. My favorite number with my favorite person.”

Both dressed in Zac Posen, DeGeneres and de Rossi were married in front of 19 of their closest family and friends, on their Estate in Beverly Hills.

They have been together 16 years. The couple met at a party, in a moment that de Rossi describes as love at first sight. Following the decision by California’s Supreme Court to overturn the law banning gays marriages in 2008, they chose to get married that same year.

Speaking on her fears about dating a public figure and coming out as gay in the early 2000’s, de Rossi tells The Advocate:

“I was closeted and very, very afraid that if I talked about being gay, it would be the end of my career, so I wasn’t about to date the most famous lesbian in the world.”

The couple have taken many strides as public figures representing the LGBTQ community.

Since making their relationship public, they have stood against the pressures of Hollywood and have never shied away from making appearances together or sharing with the public about their marriage.

However, it wouldn’t be a Hollywood marriage without the rumor mill following the couple’s every move. De Rossi jokingly tells Us Weekly:

“I’m not kidding. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when that started happening I thought, ‘Oh, now we’re finally accepted.’ We get the same as every celebrity couple.”

Despite years of speculation about divorce and troubles in their marriage, DeGeneres and de Rossi have maintained that there is no truth to the divorce rumors, which have followed them for years.

The couple have both expressed their love and admiration for each other, emphasizing that they plan to be together forever. Celebrating their 10 year anniversary, last year, de Rossi reflected on their wedding day.

11 years of marriage bliss is just the tip of the iceberg on the life they have planned together. DeGeneres and de Rossi’s love story continues to inspire so many people that have watched their relationship blossom.
