The Queen took a day off from her duties and enjoyed the Braemar Gathering on Saturday. The gathering is held on the first Saturday of September every year.

With competitions such as tossing the caber, hammer throwing, and tug of war, the gathering is a tradition and brings together hundreds of spectators each year. The event features pipe bands and Highland dancers also performing for the audience.

THE QUEEN CLAD IN PURPLE DURING THE EVENT

The Queen is currently spending her time in her residence in Balmoral. For the event, her majesty presented herself in a manner that can only be called royal. The purple outfit, combined with a matching hat made her look radiant.

In an Instagram post made by the Royal family, her Majesty was enjoying the games from the shade beside Prince Charles. Charles was wearing a traditional Kilt to the event.

The Braemar Gathering has been a tradition in the Royal family since Queen Victoria first visited the games in 1848. Her Majesty is the patron of the Braemar Gathering.

MEGAN MARKLE AND PRINCE HARRY NOT ATTENDING THE EVENT

Though Queen Elizabeth II graced the event, some members of the royal family were not present. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined the invitation to the program saying that four-month-old Archie was too young.

It was later that Markle left for New York to visit her friend Serena Williams at the US Open tournament. This is not the first time that the Duchess has skipped a royal gathering. She had previously skipped the Royal Ascot as well.
