Hoda Kotb Says She and Fiancé Joel Schiffman Were Both in Tears during His Romantic Beach Proposal

Hoda Kotb recently said yes to her longtime boyfriend, Joel Schiffman, who proposed to her during a romantic beach dinner in Mexico, and she revealed that the sweet moment proved to be an emotional one for both of them.

Hoda Kotb spoke to PEOPLE and revealed that the tears flowed freely when her fiancé, Joel Schiffman, asked her to be his wife in a romantic weekend dinner in Mexico.

AN EMOTIONAL PROPOSAL

"The Talk" co-host said:

"Joel got down on his knee and he looked at me and we were both crying. He had tears coming down and he could barely get it out. He said, 'Will you be my wife?'"

The 55-year-old added that she and Joel were so overwhelmed with emotions that he didn't hear her reply. She said:

"I said, 'Yes,' and he was like, 'What? You said yes, right' And I said 'Yes, yes, yes!' He kept looking over at me and he was like, 'You know we're engaged right?'"

It has only been a few days since the engagement, but Hoda is looking ahead to her wedding and is already making preparations for it. She said that something about getting engaged made her feel more grounded. Hoda Kotb added that they wanted to do their wedding sooner than later and that it might be a destination wedding.

HODA'S ENGAGEMENT RING

Hoda unveiled the ring with which Joel proposed while announcing her engagement on "Today." The ring has a massive radiant-cut bezel-set stone, surrounded by a hallow of pavé sapphires. It also has pavé diamonds covering the band, adding more glitz to it.

Hoda Kotb revealed details of her ring to PEOPLE, describing it hilariously. She said that the diamond part of the ring is square and that around it looked like a stop sign. She also described the sapphire part, saying that she loved the ring.

JOEL GIVES HODA BUTTERFLIES

Hoda and Joel have been together for six years now, and moved in together in 2016, something she found weird then, considering they were in their fifties. She was previously married to Burzis Kanga, a marriage that only lasted for two years, and ended in 2007.

Her relationship with Joel Schiffman is quite the contrary, with Hoda once describing him as the man that gives her butterflies at 50-years old. She also said the relationship with Joel is one of the most natural relationships she has ever had.
