Tom Hanks' Son Chet Speaks Jamaican Patois on Golden Globes Red Carpet in Video That Has Gone Viral
Fans had questions concerning Chet Hanks' bizarre clip speaking patois at the Golden Globes. The eldest son of Tom Hanks reacted to the queries as well.
Tom Hanks’ son, Chet Hanks may have stolen the thunder from his father during last weekend’s Golden Globe Awards - but not in a good way. A viral video of the younger Hanks speaking in Jamaican patois on the red carpet had some scratching their heads and made him the butt of online jokes according to CNN.

THE CONTROVERSIAL CLIP
Chet posted the clip himself where he speaks with a Caribbean accent and utters something only he could understand. His caption was equally bizarre. It read,
“BIG UP FIMI WHOL FAMILY SOON COM AT DI AWARDS NA SEEN CHUNE IN”
Chet gained headlines in the past when he battled with drug addiction. In 2018, he thanked his parents for their support throughout his journey towards sobriety.
Chet was present during the awards night along with his mother, Rita Wilson and siblings, Truman, Elizabeth and Colin Hanks in honor of Tom who received this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award. During his acceptance speech, the celebrated actor thanked his family for their support. In tears, he said, “A man is blessed with a family sitting up front like that.”

However, Tom’s shining moment would later be overshadowed by his son’s bizarre clip. Fans agreed it was an embarrassment for the family. “What did Tom Hanks do to deserve this messssss?! Whew chileeeeee,” one concerned journalist wrote among other astonished comments in reference to Chet’s clip.
CHET'S REACTION TO THE REACTIONS
Meanwhile, Chet woke up the next day baffled by the reactions from people concerning his clip. He shared a series of posts in response. In one of them, he reposted the article from CNN and wrote,
“Average citizens: damn this is scary I can’t believe we’re on the verge of WW3 let me check the news smh.”
He later posted a video of him walking out of a store and speaking in the same accent. He suggested that the internet had gone crazy over his video. His mother, Rita, on the other hand, just thought it was “the best laugh of the night” in her comment to Chet’s Golden Globes patois clip.
CHET'S HEADLINE-GRABBING PAST
Chet gained headlines in the past when he battled with drug addiction. In 2018, he thanked his parents for their support throughout his journey towards sobriety.
Last year, he alluded to his father as being both a cure and a curse when he told Too Fab that if ever he invents a cure for cancer, his father’s name would still be attached to it. In 2015, he also drew attention to several posts where he defended the use of the N-word.
