The royal couple’s surprise revelation at the start of the year caught a lot of people by surprise and elicited mixed reactions from royal watchers. In their official Instagram account, Harry and Meghan disclosed their joint intention to “step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family” in favor of living and earning independently.

AN SPECIAL OFFER FOR MEGHAN

While many questioned this drastic decision, the “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” host was quick to respond by extending an invitation to Meghan. In the Instagram account with the handle @commentsbycelebs, the talk show host’s written offer was highlighted and read, "Open invite for The Duchess to joining #RHOBH.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex earned both positive and negative reactions after their announcement...there were also those who chose to make light of the situation by joking about the couple’s intentions to be financially independent.

Andy was referring to the Bravo show, “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” as a possible venue for Meghan to work in the event that she and Harry decide to live in Los Angeles. Ironically, according to Hollywood Life, Meghan once admitted that the Bravo show was one of her guilty pleasures when she sat for an interview with UKTV’s “Dave” back in 2016.

According to the couple, they intend to split their time between North America and the United Kingdom as they pledged to continue honoring their duties to the Queen and to their royal patronages. If Andy had his way, should they decide to base themselves in Los Angeles in some parts of the year, Meghan is assured of a spot on the show.

MIXED REACTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex earned both positive and negative reactions after their announcement. Some like Piers Morgan accused the couple, especially Meghan, of breaking up the royal family while others wished them well. However, there were also those who chose to make light of the situation by joking about the couple’s intentions to be financially independent.

For instance, The Daily Show released a list of credentials alluding to the famous royals along with the caption, “WE’RE HIRING.” Meanwhile, filmmaker Ava DuVerney offered to direct them. On the other hand, comedian Amy Schumer mimicked the couple’s announcement by sharing a photo of her on a beach wheelchair and being pushed by her husband while announcing that they too were stepping down from their royal duties.

QUEEN ELIZABETH'S STATEMENT

Much like everybody else, Queen Elizabeth was reportedly equally surprised by the couple’s move. In a statement in response to Harry and Meghan’s plans, the 94-year-old stressed that these matters were “complicated” and would take time to thresh out and that discussions with the couple were still at an early stage.
