Atatiana Jefferson's Mother Yolanda Carr Passes Away Months after Her Daughter Was Fatally Shot in Her Own Home
Atatiana Jefferson's mother, Yolanda Carr, has passed away months after her daughter was slain in the same home.
The Jefferson family confirmed through their attorney that Yolanda Carr has passed away. A medical team was called to Carr's home on the morning of January 9, at the 1200 block of Easy Allen Avenue in Fort Worth.
The Tarrant County medical examiner has yet to release the cause of death, but the 55-year-old was battling a sickness before her death.

ATATIANA JEFFERSON'S TRAGIC DEATH
Months prior, Jefferson was shot in the same home after neighbors suspected a robbery. It turns out, it was Atatiana, who moved in with her mother to become her caretaker.
Jefferson was playing videogames with her 8-year-old nephew when the police arrived.

THE INCIDENT THAT LED TO THE FATAL SHOOTING
On the night of Jefferson's death, officer Aaron Dean and a partner were dispatched to the residence after a neighbor called the police non-emergency line to do a wellness check at 2:30 in the morning because the doors were open and the lights were on.
At the time, Jefferson was playing videogames with her 8-year-old nephew when the police arrived. Meanwhile, the police did not let the residents know that they were in the area, and Dean's body-cam footage showed him shooting through a window just seconds after yelling at Atatiana to put her hands up.

AN ACT OF SELF-DEFENSE
Meanwhile, to defend those in the house, Jefferson's nephew said his aunt grabbed a handgun and pointed it at the window because she heard noises.
Two days after the incident, Aaron Dean resigned from the police department and was arrested on a murder charge later that day. He was indicted on the charge last month.
