As reported by PEOPLE, Prince William has been granted a new title by the Queen. The Duke of Cambridge is the new Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

According to the royal website, William’s role is to become a personal representative for the Queen to the Church of Scotland as well as carry out various ceremonial duties and official engagements.

He would also help to “maintain the relationship between the State and the Church.” Usually, whoever takes up the position of the Lord High Commissioner is a Scottish figure.

However, members of the royal family have been appointed in the past. Some of them include the Princess Royal, the Duke of Rothesay, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex.

Richard Scott, the 10th Duke of Buccleuch and 12th Duke of Queensberry, was the last royal to handle the role before William was appointed.

The new appointment comes shortly after Queen Elizabeth, alongside other members of the royal family, came to a conclusion about Harry and Meghan’s exit.

It was agreed that the royal couple would have a transition period, which will end in Spring, after which they would be stripped of their “Royal Highness” titles. Harry and Meghan will also repay renovation costs to their Frogmore Cottage home.

PEOPLE notes that the royal family has somewhat found a replacement for Harry and Meghan as Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, would be accompanying Prince William and Kate on their next official engagement.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to host a reception on Monday at Buckingham Palace on behalf of the Queen to mark the UK-Africa Investment Summit.

Although Prince Edward and Sophie are full-time working senior royal family members, they are usually not seen at high-profile royal engagements.

This comes after US Weekly reported that the Cambridges are still healing from the hurt of Harry and Meghan’s shocking exit.

A source close to the couple revealed to the publication that William is angry with his brother while Kate is “incredibly hurt too.”
