In Italy, where Kobe lived part of his childhood, and where he first played basketball, the Italian Basketball Association has declared an official one-week-mourning period for the man they consider one of their own.
It seems as if the whole world is mourning the loss of one of the world's greatest athletes and a man with an extraordinary work ethic.
His daughter Gianna, who shared his passion and talent for basketball, and promised to follow in his footsteps is another painful loss.
Vanessa Bryant is left to raise her three surviving daughters - Natalia, 17, Bianka, 3 and Capri seven months - on her own.
The grieving Vanessa Bryant has reached out to designer and illustrator Reina Koyano and thanked her for the beautiful portrait of her recently deceased daughter, Gianna.
Vanessa reposted the illustration, which shows a smiling Gigi wearing her father's Lakers jersey and team jacket, with a basketball under her arm. Vanessa wrote:
"Seeing my babygirl smile and happy again with a basketball ? under her arm, wrapped in ??love just warmed my heart."
Reina, a talented Japanese artist, lives in Los Angeles, and paid tribute to "Mambacita." She has made the illustration a free download for all of Kobe and Gianna Bryant's fans
