REMEMBERING “GOOD TIMES”

Stanis became famous for her role as the feisty Thelma Evans in the famous ‘70s sitcom “Good Times,” which aired from 1974 until 1979. She later appeared in “Black Jesus” and “36 Hour Layover.”

Although the series premiered decades ago, “Good Times” still resonates with many people. When asked about the show, Stanis said:

“I think the show was written so realistically in terms of people’s emotions and feelings. It resonates with so many people across the board, understanding about love and family.”

She added that the show carried messages about life’s struggles and finding yourself amid a chaotic world. Stanis was able to land the role with the help of her late mother, Eula.

AN ADVOCATE OF ALZHEIMER’S

In recent years, the actress has been a busy advocate of Alzheimer’s disease with her foundation, Remembering the Good Times Foundation.

She was inspired by her mother’s journey, which she witnessed as both a daughter and caregiver. Eula died in 2011 after suffering from health complications.

The actress claimed that the disease affects families because “you miss the way things were, but if you accept the way things change, you can still have a great time together as we did.

For five years, Stanis wrote a book that shared her experience taking care of Eula. In 2016, she finally released “The Last night: A Caregiver’s Journey.”
