The music industry lost a true giant last week as soul singer Betty Wright passed away. Rapper Snoop Dogg shared his tributes earlier this week, joining a long list of celebrity tributes to her.
In a series of Instagram posts, Snoop showed just how much Betty and her work had inspired him. The rapper, who recently had to dispel rumors of cheating on his wife, appreciated Betty for her love and support.
Betty died late last week. Reports confirmed at the time that she had battled endometrial cancer for a while now.
It had reportedly gotten worse over the past few months. Sadly, she succumbed to the disease ultimately. She reportedly died at her Miami home.
The first of his posts, which Snoop shared on Monday, showed Betty singing a classic tune. It was a throwback video, showing a much younger Snoop collaborating with Betty on a performance. The rapper captioned the video:
“Thank u for bringing me to thankful Thursday’s at your house in Florida years ago for the fellowship mentoring and prayers and blessings u shared with me...Tonight is the night u get to heavens.”
The rapper’s second post was a screenshot of a conversation between him and Betty. In it, Betty shows appreciation for a recent project that he released, adding that she loved him.
In his last post, Snoop shared a picture of him and the late singer, adding, “Thank u ???. @therealbettywright r. I. P”
In a Twitter post, he explained that Betty was loving and giving, especially to the younger generation of artists.
While Betty was alive, she grew to become one of the most genuinely versatile artists of her generation. While she focused more on soul music, she was also instrumental in pioneering the funk and rock music spaces.
“Rest In Peace to the woman who gave us Ultimate soul, and meant EVERY WORD when she sang, @therealbettywright !! My condolences to her family!”
Famous singer John Legend also chimed in with a tribute of his own. In a Twitter post, he explained that Betty was loving and giving, especially to the younger generation of artists.
Betty’s career was a stellar one. It included 20 singles on the Billboard Top 40 Singles chart and a Grammy Award, amongst others. She will be missed in the industry. The outpouring of love shows that.
