Da Brat Shares Her Coming out Story after over 20 Years of Silence

Da Brat opened up about her choice to come out after several years and finding a life-long partner: "It was absolutely my decision."

For over two decades, Da Brat has been working hard on her career as a rapper, even making history as the first female rapper to go platinum in 1994.

Not only did she make a name in the music industry, but also gained more airtime as a radio presenter on "Rickey Smiley Morning Show" and co-host on "Dish Nation."

It is no question that her talent and courage to try different fields, including being an executive producer for "Growing Up Hip-Hop Atlanta." Recently, she made another bold move coming out to the public.

COMING OUT AFTER MORE THAN 20 YEARS

The multi-talented artist recently had a tell-all interview with Variety about her coming out story and relationship with Jessica Dupart, CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products.

"I've felt like being private is the better way to go, because then you don't have so many people in your business," Da Brat said. "I was fine, staying quiet, but my partner is a social media mogul."

After the "Funkdafied" artist realized she had found the one for her, she knew it was only fair to meet halfway, which meant letting the world know about their love.

Coming out on Instagram wasn't planned and began as a joke about who was going to post photos first until Dupart finally posted it.

"I was like, 'Oh [expletive]! I just came out after 20-something years!'" the rapper said. "But it feels good to share with the world when you're happy."

Last March, the rapper received a special gift for her 46th birthday that moved her to tears.

HOW THE WORLD REACTED

Da Brat knew what damage coming out could possibly bring to her career, but her choice to keep it private was one she made alone, without any force by managers.

The singer came from a religious family, which made coming out a bit difficult. "You never want to hurt the people that raised you; you don't want to disappoint them," she said.

Although it seems that her family is not exactly for her choice, they still love their daughter "unconditionally" and haven't said anything negative towards Da Brat.

Moreover, the overwhelming response her fans and followers gave warmed the "Give It 2 You" artist's heart and made her realize she could have done the same years back.

Since coming out in March, this year's Pride will be the first of Da Brat. "To me, Pride is loving myself and not making excuses for anything: Live your truth," she shared.

DA BRAT'S SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GIFT

Last March, the rapper received a special gift for her 46th birthday that moved her to tears. Her girlfriend surprised her with a Bentley and caught the sweet reaction on video.

Although the rapper doesn't like receiving gifts from Dupart, the expensive car was one she could not refuse.

Although it isn't known when the couple met and began dating, they are very much happy in their relationship and are successful in their own career.

Dupart's multimillion-dollar business became a success, thanks to its social media audience and the influencers who promoted Kaleidoscope hair care.
