Their split caused a ruckus as many perceived the duo as the perfect couple. However, the reverse was the case behind the scenes. According to US Weekly, Kelly and Brandon were knee-deep in marital problems as they “clashed on several levels.”
While Clarkson didn’t directly address the split, she hinted at the difficult time, after she explained that she had returned back to Los Angeles from Montana, where she quarantined.
A source close to the ex-lovers revealed to the publication that while they had been experiencing problems, the quarantine was the straw that broke the camel’s back as they reached “a point of no return.”
The insider explained that the duo had differences as Brandon was more “laid-back” while Kelly was “high strung,” and that translated into many of their decisions, especially those pertaining to her career.

According to the source, when Clarkson returned to the industry with full force and took on the job of coaching “The Voice” alongside running her talk show, “it changed things.”
It was recalled that the devastating news of the split surfaced last week after it was reported that Kelly filed for divorce on June 4.
According to court papers obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the “American Idol” alum cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation and demanded to be exempted from paying spousal support.
She also requested for her legal name to be reverted to Clarkson and joint custody of their kids, River 6, and Remington, 4.
Shortly after the news of the divorce, People Magazine reports that the singer spoke about being on an emotional rollercoaster for the past few months during an interview with Glamour Magazine.
Although the interview was conducted before the split, Clarkson revealed that things had been “crazy” as she has been battling her abandonment issues.
USA Today notes that days after the split, she sang Aretha Franklin’s hit song “Chains of Fools,” during the Tuesday episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
While Clarkson didn’t directly address the split, she hinted at the difficult time, after she explained that she had returned back to Los Angeles from Montana, where she quarantined. In her words:
“It’s a complicated time. It’s a time to reflect, listen and connect with each other, all right? But sometimes we also need to balance it and take time for ourselves.”
This comes after an insider revealed to People Magazine that Kelly and Brandon had been acting like friends and not lovers because of their busy schedules.
