This year’s edition of Fathers’ Day was quite a memorable one, with celebrities paying tribute to their father figures. Former NFL star Michael Strahan got on the trend as well.

In an Instagram post published yesterday, Strahan paid tribute to his father and himself on the special day. The former footballer posted a collage showing off his family as he shared a nod to all fathers.

Strahan’s first photo was one of himself and his father, Gene. The picture showed both men at what appeared to be a birthday party, as they had some balloons behind them.

The second picture was a collage. It featured Strahan’s children — Tanita, Sophia, Michel Jr., and Isabella. The proud father smiled in the photos, although one of them showed him sleeping beside one of his girls on a couch. In his caption, Strahan paid homage to his father and other fathers across the world. In part, he explained:

“Happy #FathersDay to my dad and all the fathers out there. Hopefully you are relaxing and enjoying the honor of being a dad (the greatest gift in life).”

The former football star also explained that fathers have a great deal of impact on their children. Concluding, he encouraged fathers to set good examples for their kids, because kids always watch.

Strahan has been dealing with some family issues recently, especially concerning his custody battle with ex-wife Jean Muggli. The pair split over a decade ago, but they share two of his children — Sophia and Isabella.

Strahan chose to be active after retiring from the NFL for his kids.

Despite the custody battle, however, Strahan has been more than open concerning his journey through fatherhood. In an interview from years back, he shared some of the lessons he learned from his father and his kids.

Michael called his father the most influential person in his life. As for the parenting lessons that he caught, he said:

“My dad was always about when you’re going to do something, not if. I believe in my kids 100 percent. When you have confidence in them, they have confidence in themselves.”

In a separate interview, Strahan explained that he chose to be active after retiring from the NFL for his kids. As he said at the time, his children motivate him to do more with himself.

So, instead of working to pay for bills or anything, he gets up every morning to set an example of hard work. The former football star added that he believes his children should have more than just the drive to succeed.

They should also have ambition and work ethic. By continuing to work even after making millions in the NFL, he hopes to inspire them.
