Bird and Rapinoe first met in 2016 at a press conference for the 2016 Olympics, where they were both interviewed at the ESPN Women and Sports Summit.

After their first meeting, Rapinoe ended up attending some of Bird's basketball games during the Olympics, and because they had some mutual friends, they would all hang out during their off time.

Later on, Rapinoe reached out to commend Bird on a Black Lives Matter activism that she had participated in alongside her team.

From there, the duo started texting, and once they were back in Seattle where they both lived, the rest was history. In 2017, the couple's relationship was made public after Bird confirmed that she and Rapinoe had been dating since fall 2016.

While attending the Women's Sports Foundation's 40th Annual Salute to Women in Sports gala last year, Rapinoe opened up about her relationship with Bird.

According to her, their relationship was great because they had learned how to be great support systems for each other over the years.

Asides both being great athletes, Bird and Rapinoe also doubles as activists who often lend their voices towards topics like equal pay for female athletes, LGBTQ rights, racism, and police brutality.

On March 8, 2019, all 28 members of the United States Women's National Soccer Team filed a $66million federal gender discrimination lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation.

According to them, they had been subjected to institutionalized gender discrimination, despite having the same job responsibilities as their male counterparts.

However, the case was dismissed by the court earlier this year, and despite this, Rapinoe and her teammate, Alex Morgan, revealed that they were not giving up on the fight.

Amid the recent Black Lives Movement activism, Rapinoe also took time to remind her fans of the need to keep using their voices in the fight against injustice in the society.

There is no doubt that Rapinoe is passionate about creating a better world, and clearly, she won't stop fighting until her voice is heard. Happy birthday Rapinoe!
